Cayenne Pepper’s Healing Properties

Posted: January 6th, 2010 by Linda Miner · 6 Comments

cayenneCayenne is a very hot, fiery pepper that when added to foods, even in small amounts, can be very helpful.  It assists digestion by stimulating saliva and stomach secretions.

It is very warming and helps improve circulation. If you have cold feet, sprinkly a little Cayenne in your socks to warm them up.

It acts as a natural decongestant and expectorant.  If you have a bad cough, a great remedy is hot water, natural honey and Cayenne.  This remedy also works for gastrointestinal and bowel problems.

Externally, cayenne is used in the treatment of Athritis. You can purchase creams with cayenne in them, or add 1/2 tsp of cayenne to 1 cup of body lotion or warm vegetable oil and rub on the affected area (don’t apply to open skin).  Cayenne cream is also used in the treatment of Shingles.

I like to sprinkle a little cayenne into all my soup recipes to give them a little “zip”.  Give it a try.
